End of an Era for India Day in Naperville.

After months of engagement and a formal appeal process with the City of Naperville, ICO is deeply disappointed by the decision to deny City Services funding for the India Day celebration and just provide only minimal support for parade-related city services in 2026.

For more than 11 years, India Day has been a free, community-centered event that has brought together thousands of residents, supported businesses and organizations, and contributed meaningfully to the cultural and economic fabric of Naperville. It has served as a platform to educate and engage the Indian American community, one of the city’s largest and fastest-growing communities, while fostering unity and cross-cultural understanding across all residents.

India Day has become much more than an event. It has become a tradition that reflects the diversity, inclusiveness, and community spirit of Naperville. It is especially disheartening for a community that has continuously contributed to the city’s growth, vibrancy, and success.

However, while we are disappointed, we are not deterred.

India Day will continue, and it will be stronger than ever. ICO is already in discussions with alternate sites to host the celebration and ensure that this important cultural event continues to thrive and reach the community it was built for.

We look forward to announcing the final date and location in the coming week. This tradition will live on, and you will not want to miss what comes next!

Very disappointing. For a city that prides itself on culture and community, it’s a huge step backward not to support events like this. My family and I have made a tradition out of this for years. Naperville can—and should—do better.

Thank you for all your hard work and dedication over the years and for finding an alternate location (it’s not easy!). It will be stronger and better than ever and looking forward to attending again. Thank you 🩷

You should bring it to Glenview. They are much more inclusive and a better location.

This is a disheartening decision. I remember , during one of my early years announcing the parade , I stated that “this is more than a parade. It’s a moving celebration !” The India Day parade was festive , colorful and filled with music. The entries displayed the diverse character of the different regions in the world’s most populous country. It’s a loss for Naperville .

Welcome to the new America. You will see this treatment in many other areas as well.

Extremely disappointing about the Bias that has been demonstrated by City of Naperville city council.

We are deeply grateful to Hinsdale Mayor Greg Hart for recognizing @India's 79th Independence Day and presenting a special Proclamation. On behalf of the Indian American community, our Chairman Krishna Bansal along with ICO members Meghna Bansal and Vibha Rajput , were honored to receive this recognition.

Thank you, Mayor Greg Hart, for your thoughtfulness and for presenting the first-ever Proclamation of this kind from Hinsdale. This meaningful gesture will surely have a lasting, positive impact on our growing Indian American community.
